You guys give me the creeps .. in a good way though

I like the Mighty Boosh. There aren’t many acts that can make me feel confused, slightly sick, too old, too young and still guarantee a fall off the sofa laugh. Their music is pretty impressive too. So when I received word that they were playing at the O2 in December I grabbed tickets. I’m taking my wife and have just created a raffle for the other two tickets (well I was hardly going to put them up on eBay was I ?!)

    Tickets are £1.50 each and there’s only 100. Here’s the link: http://www.raffle.it/raffle/10125

    Good luck.

No doubt once you’ve entered a raffle you’re as keen as us to get the thing finished.

We’ve had some fairly subtle tools to help you share a raffle with your friends and will soon be rolling out some less subtle options for posting links to a variety of online places you may chose to inhabit.

As a thank you for your recommendation efforts we’ve introduced a reward program (we’ve been quietly testing it for a while now so you may have seen it). It works by assigning you a simple unique link to share with your friends. When a friend uses your link to enter a raffle we award you £1.

    The structure is as follows:

http://www.raffle.it/a/your-playername – this will send your friends to the home page. Once they’ve entered their first raffle we’ll credit your Raffle.it account with £1 (per friend of course).

http://www.raffle.it/a/your-player-name/raffle-reference (for example if I were referring you to Tinx’s Arsenal raffle the link would be http://www.raffle.it/a/pasalot/10117)

We will be extending this system shortly to not only reward you but also give your friends a little something for knowing you.

I’ve mentioned in a previous post about creating your own raffles. We want to hear from you if you fancy selling something via Raffle.it. Got something you are about to auction?? Hold on.

It’s currently not straightforward to do this yourself so we’ll do all the leg work for you. (changes are coming soon).

Just send us details of what you’ve got and how much you want for it and we’ll take it from there. The wackier the better. Remember you can raffle anything you like* as everything becomes affordable when you raffle it.

    * Provided it’s legal, decent and genuine.

Once we’ve got a good selection together we’re going to run a competition between us Rafflers to see who can sell the most tickets within 30 days. Whoever sells the most will win £100 cash.

This is in addition to anything you earn for introducing your friends to Raffle.it …

  • We’re giving all raffles a deadline

Pascal Wheeler 1:07 pm on September 22, 2008 Permalink | Reply

Just a small note to let you know that we’ll be rolling out a fairly big change to the way raffles work over the next couple of weeks. This is in direct response to a number of you requesting/suggesting it, and it makes perfect sense so thank you.

Every raffle will be given an ‘end no later than’ date. In almost all cases this will be 30 days from the day it went live. What does this mean to you? It means that when you enter a raffle you’ll know the latest it will finish. This doesn’t effect the fixed number of tickets. If all tickets are taken before the end date, the raffle will close with the last ticket sale.

What happens if all the tickets aren’t sold? The raffle will close and as always the winner will be the person holding the lowest, unique ticket number. The winner will receive 70% of the cash raised from the ticket sales.

If a particular raffle has been exceptionally unpopular and only sold a handful of tickets, we’ll simply refund your ticket costs back to your Raffle.it account.

The exceptions that spring to mind right now are Charity and School raffles – we’ll be giving these a little longer to run. Also if anyone wants to raffle their house we wouldn’t limit you to 30 days, at least not until we get really popular ;)

Any questions or concerns please use the comments here.

When Nintendo first announced the official name for the Wii I know I wasn’t alone in thinking what a ridiculous name, that they were setting themselves up for ridicule and failure. Aside from the fact that the console has breathed new life into the gaming sector and is a blinding piece of kit; the name itself has provided no end of pun opportunities for anyone wanting to write about it. And so they do. Ramble over.

Congratulations to Markkb for winning a Wii with ticket number 11. There were only 21 unique ticket numbers chosen in this raffle out of a total of 100. Check out the results here.

If you want to have a Wii in your front room (sorry) and can’t quite justify it to your other half Raffle.it can help. If you already have a Wii in the corner and can’t afford the accessories Raffle.it can help. We’ve got three Wii related raffles running right now. One’s for a Wii, another for the Wii Fit and the third for several additional Nunchuck controllers (they’re really quite expensive!). All offer fantastic rewards from GAME just for taking part.

    Go take a look now.

  • Ahoy Facebookers, wonderful treasure lay buried there

I’ve no idea why but it’s the International Speak Like A Pirate Day today. I only know because Michael Arrington tweeted about it this morning. Just checked out Facebook’s support for this obviously incredibly important and historic day, and have to say it’s pretty impressive. So if you’re wondering why that new feature request you’d submitted to Facebook hasn’t been implemented yet, now you know why.

To activate this on your account simply go to Settings – Language – and change Primary Language to English (Pirate).

Their attention to detail is amazing.

Time to abandon ship me Hearties.

  • How to raffle a house

Just a quick note to ask anyone that’s interested in raffling their houses to contact us. We’re really excited by recent developments and feel the time is right to extend our platform to anyone struggling to sell their property.

    Why raffle.it?

A core mission of ours is to make everything affordable to everyone. Instead of holding out for a single deep pocketed individual or hoping that the chain doesn’t break somewhere, a raffle spreads your risks as a seller far and wide, reducing them to almost nothing.

Raffling your house makes it attractive to a much, much wider audience and injects some much needed fun into the housing market.

Using Raffle.it eliminates all the administrative headaches and legal costs associated with operating a raffle legally in the UK. And there’s no upfront costs. No risk to you.

Raffle.it will become a wide spread raffle based marketplace, with raffles running for anything and everything. It will make dreams come true everyday and help us turn our economy around. Okay I may be getting a little carried away now but you get the idea, right?

So got a house, or something interesting or funky to sell? We really want to here from you.

      Hello
We are interested in raffling off our home, however we need to know what the rewards and down sides are before we do it.
Our home is very nice and it would attract a lot of people.
Are the laws very different from the UK to the USA. Please let us know.

      Thanks Al

    • Pascal Wheeler 1:50 pm on September 19, 2008 Permalink | Reply

Hi Al, the regulations governing this type of competition are a little more complex in the US, due largely to differences between the various States. We are currently exploring our options for taking Raffle.it beyond the UK.

The biggest benefit to a raffle based approach is the shared cost. You’re not looking for one individual that loves your house so much that they will stump up enough to keep you happy. With the raffle you are offering the chance to have a house for a tiny fraction of it’s worth. That appeals to many more people that would have otherwise been put off by the price.

Our service provides an incredibly simple tool to create your own raffle for whatever you’re looking to sell. We’ve taken care of all the legal requirements and provide the payment processing, tracking and documentation.

Most importantly we provide a tamper proof method for identifying the winner that is immediate, fair and not random.

DO YOU KNOW IF IT IS LEAGLE IN THE STATE OF KENTUCKY?

IF NOT, CAN I SET UP A RAFFEL IN ANOTHER STATE WHERE IT IS LEAGLE, AND RAFFEL OFF A HOUSE IN KENTUCKY?

      • Pascal Wheeler 10:43 am on January 23, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Hi David, we’re currently only focused on the UK and Europe as it seems exceptionally difficult to provide a consistent, legal service in the States. I appreciate this doesn’t really help you right now. I would recommend speaking with a local charity and seeing if you can tie up a joint raffle venture where they receive anything raised beyond the cost of your house. I understand this approach has been used previously although I can’t say for sure which States permitted it.

        Hope this helps

        -Pascal

  • A little side project launched over the weekend

Almost 10 months in the making, little Tansy launched on an unsuspecting world without so much as a press release or exclusive beta. I had planned on Tweeting the event but it went so smoothly it was all over in under an hour, also I’m pretty sure my chief developer wouldn’t have been too happy disclosing all her trade secrets.

Here’s Tansy, the ultimate time waster (in the best way of course)

She was delivered at home with the help of our great friend Sonja who also happens to be a Doula. Mum and baby doing incredibly well, I would say more but am currently under a Non Disclosure Agreement. More to follow soon.
